Writer's Guidelines PDF Print E-mail

We are looking for writers who like to share their enthusiasm about what is happening in and around Big Spring. This might include any of the following:

event reviews
restaurant reviews
interviews with people of interest
upcoming events

There is no word limit generally, but articles should be 500 to 1,000 words. Longer articles should have subheadings to break up the text. We count on our writers to find topics that will appeal to our readers. If you think someone you have met is interesting enough to interview, then our readers probably will also. We generally do not accept fiction.

We don't have a large staff to do editing, so spelling, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure should reflect knowledge of the English language. If you aren't sure you can meet this requirement, please have someone proofread for you.

Text should be submitted as an attachment (preferably Microsoft Word) to an email. We do not have time to re-key articles, so all submissions must be in a digital format. If you don't have email, then you may submit on disk by bringing it by the office.

Deadline for articles is the second of the month prior to publication by 5 p.m. If you intend to submit an article, it is helpful to let us know in advance but it is not required.

Payment will be determined based on submission. Digital photographs are also welcome. Photos should be uncropped and at least 5 megapixels in size for print requirements.

If you are interested in writing for Big Spring Monthly, please write a sample food review or interview and submit it to us. In your email, please give us your name and phone number so we may contact you if we need additional information.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks.
